The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
The PCA is the largest evangelical and reformed denomination in the United States. Our standard of doctrine is the Westminster Confession of Faith (see more on what our church believes). In the PCA, each local congregation is led by elders. All teaching elders (pastors) and ruling elders (lay elders) in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) are men who it is believed meet the Biblical qualifications for the office of elder (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Pet. 5:1-4). All elders must also vow to uphold our confession and are required to indicate to their sessions and presbytery if (and where) they take any doctrinal exceptions.
Each local church in the PCA is a member of and accountable to a regional presbytery. In turn, each Presbytery is a member of and accountable to our denomination at the national level. Each summer, members from every presbytery convene at our General Assembly. This structure of leadership and accountability creates a standard of teaching and a framework for evangelism and worship while still allowing each church to have its own “personality”. The PCA has a rich history and is committed to the Gospel and the glory of God.
The Heartland Presbytery
A Presbytery is a regional group of churches in our denomination united for accountability and mutual encouragement. Our presbytery is called the Heartland Presbytery and consists of the entire state of Kansas and the Missouri portion of the Kansas City metro region. There are currently ten churches in the Heartland Presbytery located in Kansas City, Wichita, Lawrence, and Manhattan. Learn more about the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
